True inclusion occurs when individuals with and without disabilities are valued for their individuality and are active participants in the social fabric of their communities. Recreation activities are a vehicle through which true inclusion can be achieved due to the tendency of such activities to lead to other ventures.
PEAK ACCESS provides the resources, education, technical assistance and training to promote true inclusion. PEAK ACCESS is dedicated to our local towns, residents, tourists, and businesses. We work closely with RVing Accessibility Group, which is dedicated to raising awareness for greater outdoor recreational accessibility for the RVing community.
PEAK ACCESS is a 501c3 non-profit corporation — a local volunteer group of persons, consisting of people with and without disabilities, working to raise awareness in our communities to provide full inclusion for the disabled and aging community to be able to engage in community activities and be able to participate in many activities others take for granted.
Some of the more common activities that present challenges for persons with disabilities, including our aging community include shopping, eating out, enjoying the hot springs, and other recreational activities. In some cases, due to lack of access routes, parents and/or grandparents in wheelchairs have to watch their children and/or grandchildren, play baseball, soccer or softball from their car.
Our mission is to work with local businesses and municipalities to help them learn ways to improve accessibility and to work toward ADA compliance over time so they can provide access for ALL visitors and access to sports facilities to be able to participate as a spectator by being closer to the action.
Some of the programs we are targeting are:
- Playground access
- Trails and river access
- Business access
- Business owner workshops
- Accessible improvements with parks and recreation
- Publishing educational materials on ADA compliance and accessibility
- Making improvements without breaking the bank
- Service animals and the law and rules on acceptance
- How to mitigate disability discrimination lawsuits
In order to be able to provide these services and education, we need your help. Tax deductible donations can be made securely online.
Our logo is intended to reflect the fact that ALL persons regardless of disability, should have the opportunity to climb that mountain. Every day, overcoming a challenge is like reaching that peak. This is America, where we take our freedom for granted. And without access for the disabled, we are taking their freedom away. Won’t you help us restore that freedom by supporting our cause?
